M\u00fcller-Thurgau war Lehrer, Botaniker, Pflanzenphysiologe, Phytopathologe, \u00d6nologe, Mikrobiologe, Rebenz\u00fcchter, Herausgeber der \u00abRoten\u00bb, Obstsaftpionier und Katalysator f\u00fcr unz\u00e4hlige Forschungsprojekte – und damit einer der einflussreichsten Schweizer Universalgelehrten\u00a0 im Obst- und Weinbau.<\/p>\n

W\u00e4hrend des ganzen Jubil\u00e4umsjahres sind verschiedene Aktivit\u00e4ten geplant.
\nEine Sonderausstellung im Weinbaumuseum am Z\u00fcrisee<\/a> (Halbinsel Au) widmet sich M\u00fcller-Thurgau – dem Menschen und der Rebsorte.

Die Rebsorte M\u00fcller-Thurgau<\/h3>\n

Die Sorte M\u00fcller-Thurgau wurde 1882 von Prof. Hermann M\u00fcller, damals Forschender und Lehrer an der k\u00f6niglichen Lehranstalt f\u00fcr Obst-, Wein- und Gartenbau in Geisenheim (Hessen), gez\u00fcchtet. 1891 folgte M\u00fcller dem Ruf der Eidg. Versuchs- und Lehranstalt nach W\u00e4denswil am Z\u00fcrichsee und der Thurgauer (deshalb M\u00fcller-Thurgau) kam in die Schweiz zur\u00fcck. Heinrich Schellenberg in W\u00e4denswil vermehrte die von M\u00fcller-Thurgau mitgebrachten Stecklinge. Prof. M\u00fcller meinte, er habe Riesling mit Silvaner gekreuzt. Effektiv ergaben aber neuere Genanalysen, dass es sich um eine Kreuzung zwischen weissem Riesling x Madeleine Royale<\/em> handelt.<\/p>\n

Die Rebsorte M\u00fcller-Thurgau ist eine in der Deutschweiz und in S\u00fcddeutschland weit verbreitete Rebsorte. Sie gilt als eine der erfolgreichsten Neuz\u00fcchtungen. In den Deutschschweizer Kantonen Z\u00fcrich, Schaffhausen, St. Gallen, Aargau und Thurgau ist M\u00fcller-Thurgau die fl\u00e4chenst\u00e4rkste Weissweinsorte.<\/p>\n

Am Bielersee ist die auf knapp 300 m\u00b2 angebaute Rebsorte M\u00fcller-Thurgau nicht sehr bedeutend. Im 220 ha umfassenden Rebberg am Juras\u00fcdhang wird zwar traditionell Weisswein angebaut, vorwiegend aber Chasselas, gefolgt von Pinot gris, Chardonnay und Sauvignon blanc. Chasselas (Gutedel, Fendant) ist auch die haupts\u00e4chliche Weissweinsorte der welschen Weinkantone Waadt, Genf, Wallis, Freiburg und Neuenburg, zu denen auch die Bielersee Region gez\u00e4hlt wird.<\/p>\n

\u00dcbrigens nimmt am Bielersee die Anbaufl\u00e4che f\u00fcr Weisswein generell ab. 2023 waren nur noch 54 % des gesamten Rebareals mit Weisswein-Sorten best\u00fcckt. Rotwein erreichte mit 46% des gesamten Rebareals einen neuen Rekord. Bei den roten Trauben dominiert mit \u00fcber 80 ha ganz klar der Blauburgunder.
